Plain Language

Phase I: Plain Language Awareness

Participants are taught the benefits of communicating in a way people understand. Participants experience first hand the frustration and confusion of samples of unclear communication. Workshops help them clarify written and oral communication while maintaining appropriate style. Participants leave the session with a set of printed guidelines to help them communicate more effectively with both clients and colleagues.

Phase II: Plain Language Training

This segment delves deeply into the strategies, processes and techniques of successful communication. Participants learn to

  • choose the best form of communication for each situation,
  • state the main point first
  • offer the right amount of background and detail
  • create persuasive arguments
  • maintain a positive tone
  • choose the appropriate level of language for their client.

Types of communication include:

  • replying to enquiries
  • explaining procedures
  • giving instructions
  • requesting information
  • offering persuasive arguments.

Participants

  • undergo a thorough review of the role of grammar in clear communication
  • receive a binder that includes an instructional text, a workbook and a reference section, all custom-designed to refer to your business
